Classes and Workshops
Programs
We have an abbreviated schedule this fall at Atha Yoga while Robyn is living in residence at Zen Mountain Monastery until the summer of 2026. But you still have some opportunities to study and practice with her, both online and in-person.
All online classes are held on Zoom - you will receive the link about an hour before class begins. Classes will be recorded and participants will receive a private link to the recording within 24 hours of class.
Intro to Sanskrit for Yoga Students and Teachers
An online, three-part series for anyone who has ever been curious about the language of Yoga.
Session 1: Join us for an overview of the history of Sanskrit, practice the sounds that make up its “alphabet” and explore why it is important and beneficial to your practice to learn some of the fundamentals of Sanskrit as a student of Yoga. This session is free!
Sunday, November 23, 2025 at 12 pm PT/3 pm ET/4:30 NT - 75 minutes.
Session 2: Having practiced making the sounds of the Sanskrit alphabet, let’s put them together to create some common words used in Yoga. We will practice saying some of the most common āsana (posture) names correctly along with some of the key concepts drawn from Patanjali’s Yogasūtra. We also will discuss ways to integrate Sanskrit into your Yoga teaching without alienating your students (and why this is important and beneficial for them too!).
Sunday, December 7, 2025 at 12 pm PT/3 pm ET/4:30 NT - 90 minutes. $39
Session 3: Building on your skill set, let’s integrate using short Sanskrit mantrā within a practice. We will experience the effects of using mantrā in a practice firsthand and then discuss the how/what/why bringing Sanskrit mantrā into practices - your own or those that you teach.
Sunday, December 14, 2025 at 12 pm PT/3 pm ET/4:30 NT - 90 minutes. $39
NOTE: All sessions will be recorded. Participants will receive lifetime access to the recordings. And, if you miss the live classes, you will be able to purchase the pre-recorded package in early 2026.
Winter Solstice Celebration
FREE!
Join us as we celebrate the longest night and the beginning of the return of light. We will do some Vedic chanting and then do 108 led Sūrya Namaskar. (NOTE: I change it up so we do a variety of sūrya namaskar, some more challenging than others.) Come for a little or a lot! All are welcome.
Soar Like A Bird
One of the key anatomies of Yoga views the human body as a collection of interconnected systems. It says that we can use our body, breath and mind to shift our physical, mental and emotional state to create a new way of being in the world. It uses a bird metaphor to describe this multi-dimensional anatomy, suggesting that, when all these aspects of ourselves are in balance, we have the potential to soar freely.
In this retreat, we will explore this interrelated understanding of ourselves using movement, intentional breathing, visualization, creative practices and more. We will explore where we are in balance and where we might be out of balance and try out different ways to work with each of these various aspects of ourselves.
This retreat is in-person at the Zen Center of New York City in Brooklyn, NY. It is open to everyone - no yoga or movement experience is required. Please dress comfortably and bring a yoga mat, if you have one. Register directly with ZCNYC (coming soon!)
Saturday, January 10, 2026. 10 am - 4 pm ET/Lunch is provided (vegetarian). By donation.
